Maybe a little more caring

The old lady who lived one door down my apartment passed away the day before. She’s been living alone there for decades and I wish I had hung out with her more.

A couple of weeks ago I saw her at the mail boxes downstairs, she was complaining of a lingering cold. She had lost a lot of weight, her skin lost a glow that I used to see and her voice weak. To put it in a Chinese way, I saw a cloud of inauspicious shadow covering her. Some material from the other side has got a hold of her and ready to take her.

I wish I had urged her to get a check up at that time. It takes practice to put more care and kindness into our community. Hopefully she is now in a much better place, reunited with her beloved cats. I will miss her.
